MALEIC anhydride, also known as maleic anhydride, maleic anhydride, 2,5 Furanedione, etc. . A colorless acicular or lamellar crystal of the RHOMBIC system. Specifications of MA
Solid maleic anhydride is a white flaky live granular crystal, easy to sublime, soluble in alcohol, ether and acetone, relative density 1.48 (20℃ solid) or 1.30 (70℃ liquid), boiling point 202℃, easy to deliquescence in water to form maleic acid.
It is a kind of white briquettes with heavy irritant oder. Sp. gr. (solid) 1.48, m. p, 52.8°C, b.p200°C (760mmHg), also readily sublimates. It is soluble in alcohol, ether, acetone and slightly soluble in petroleum ether, carbon tetrachloride. It is soluble in water, forming maleic acid.
